Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan have no verified shared credit in a released film or television production as of September, 2026. The strongest connection between their names comes from Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, where early 2012 casting reports associated Ronan with the project and Hopkins later joined the cast, but Ronan does not appear in Paramount Pictures’ final credited cast for the released 2014 film.
Searches for anthony hopkins and saoirse ronan can therefore be misleading. The two actors belong to different generations but have overlapping links through prestige cinema, awards seasons, and particularly the complicated early casting history of Noah. There is also no reliable public evidence establishing a family, romantic, or otherwise notable personal relationship between them.
What Is the Connection Between Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan?
The clearest documented connection is Darren Aronofsky’s Noah.
In April 2012, reports emerged that Saoirse Ronan was being lined up for the biblical epic alongside Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. One contemporary report stated that Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman had confirmed Connelly and Ronan as additions to the developing production, although Ronan’s specific role was not yet clear.
A few months later, in July 2012, Anthony Hopkins officially joined Noah as Methuselah. Reporting at the time continued to list Ronan among the announced cast members, meaning Hopkins and Ronan briefly appeared together in coverage of the same production.
That is where the story becomes confusing.
Saoirse Ronan Is Not in the Released Version of Noah
Paramount Pictures’ current official page for Noah credits:
- Russell Crowe as Noah
- Jennifer Connelly as Naameh
- Ray Winstone as Tubal-cain
- Emma Watson as Ila
- Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah
- Logan Lerman as Ham
Saoirse Ronan is not included in Paramount’s cast list.
Apple TV’s credits and the released film’s full cast information likewise identify Emma Watson as Ila and Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah, with no Ronan performance in the finished movie.
This means it would be inaccurate to describe Noah as a released Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan movie.
Why Was Saoirse Ronan Linked to Noah?
The development history was unusually messy, with casting reports changing as the production moved toward filming.
In April 2012, Ronan was reported as attached or expected to appear. Later reports suggested she was among the actresses considered for the young female role that ultimately became Ila, played by Emma Watson. Contemporary reporting also shifted between describing Ronan as officially involved and merely under consideration.
By June 2012, reports were indicating that Watson was negotiating for the part of a young woman connected romantically with Noah’s son Shem, a role for which Ronan’s name had also circulated.
The final film settles the issue more clearly than the conflicting development reports. Watson plays Ila, Hopkins plays Methuselah, and Ronan has no credited role in Paramount’s released version.
There is not enough reliable primary-source evidence to state confidently whether Ronan formally signed a contract, filmed material that was removed, or simply remained attached during an earlier stage of casting. Claims that go further than the surviving evidence should therefore be treated cautiously.
Have Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan Appeared in Any Other Movie Together?
There is no verified released film currently listed in their public acting credits that features both performers.

Ronan’s career includes Atonement, The Lovely Bones, Hanna, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Brooklyn, Lady Bird, Mary Queen of Scots, Little Women, Ammonite, The Outrun, Blitz and Bad Apples. Her public filmography does not show a released Hopkins collaboration.
Their careers do, however, repeatedly intersect with the same broader group of major British, Irish and international filmmakers and performers.
Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan at the 2020 Oscars
There is another genuine professional overlap between the two actors: both were nominees at the 92nd Academy Awards, held on February 9, 2020.
Hopkins was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for portraying Pope Benedict XVI in The Two Popes. Ronan was nominated for Best Actress for portraying Jo March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women.
Neither won that year. Brad Pitt won Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, while Renée Zellweger won Leading Actress for Judy.
The same awards season also placed them among BAFTA nominees. BAFTA listed Ronan in Leading Actress for Little Women and Hopkins in Supporting Actor for The Two Popes.
Being nominees at the same ceremonies does not establish a personal connection, but it does explain another context in which their names can appear near one another online.
How Their Oscar Records Compare
Both actors have substantial Academy Award histories, although Hopkins has won while Ronan has so far been nominated without winning.
| Actor | Academy Award record | Selected nominated performances |
|---|---|---|
| Anthony Hopkins | 6 acting nominations, 2 wins | The Silence of the Lambs, The Remains of the Day, Nixon, Amistad, The Two Popes, The Father |
| Saoirse Ronan | 4 acting nominations | Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird, Little Women |
The Academy’s awards database records Hopkins’ six nominations and victories for The Silence of the Lambs and The Father.
Ronan received her first Oscar nomination as a teenager for her performance as Briony Tallis in Atonement. She later received leading-actress nominations for Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women. The Academy’s records confirm her Atonement, Lady Bird and Little Women nominations, while its 2016 ballot records her nomination for Brooklyn.

Focus Features’ production notes describe how casting director Jina Jay discovered Ronan during the extensive search for the young Briony.
That performance earned Ronan an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2008 Oscars.
She later developed into a leading actor through films such as Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women. Those three performances each brought additional Oscar nominations, giving her four Academy Award nominations by the age of 25.

Are Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan Related?

Hopkins is Welsh and comes from a family rooted in Wales, while Ronan was born to Irish parents and grew up in Ireland. Their shared profession and overlapping presence in British and Irish cinema do not indicate a family connection.
Is There a Personal Relationship Between Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan?
There is no well-documented public evidence of a close personal, romantic, or family relationship between them.
That statement should not be interpreted to mean that the actors have necessarily never met. Both have participated in major international awards circuits and the same broader film industry. It simply means reliable reporting does not establish a significant private relationship that would explain searches pairing their names.
Why Do Websites Sometimes List Saoirse Ronan in Noah?
Older databases and entertainment reports can preserve preliminary casting information long after a project’s final credits change.
For example, some databases still list Ronan among Noah cast members even though Paramount’s official movie page and other final credits do not.
For publication-quality information, the final studio credits should carry more weight than an early casting article or an outdated third-party database. In this case, Paramount identifies Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah and Emma Watson as Ila, but does not identify Saoirse Ronan as part of the released cast.
That distinction is central to understanding the Anthony Hopkins and Saoirse Ronan search query.
